This morning I received an email that looked incredibly real.

It landed right in my Gmail inbox (not the Promotions tab), used a verified domain, and appeared to be a legitimate recruitment message from “Meta AI“.

Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. It was a phishing scam – and a good one.

Why This Phishing Email Was So Convincing

The email followed all the rules of a legit message. The domain was verified:

The formatting was clean, and the subject line was flattering (who wouldn’t want to be invited to work with Meta AI?!):

But here’s where the scam unfolded:

  • Clicking “Schedule a Call” took me to a very realistic page.

That page offered two options:

  • Create a career profile – asking for your name, email, and phone number.

  • Log in – which would have handed over your Meta/Facebook credentials to a scammer via a lookalike login page.

The Key to Staying Safe: SKEPTICISM

I shared this as a real-world follow-up to a workshop I hosted called Peace of Mind in 15: Secure Your Google Account.
One of the core messages I teach is that the number one way to avoid being scammed is to stay skeptical – even when the email looks perfect.

Phishing attempts like this aren’t just annoying spam – they’re sophisticated attacks that prey on trust and distraction.

What You Should Do If You Spot a Phishing Email in Gmail

  • Don’t click anything.

  • Report it as phishing, not just spam. Gmail takes phishing reports more seriously.

If an email feels off – even if it looks polished – pause. A 10-second gut check can save you from a serious security breach. Forward it to a friend. I’ll even be that friend, if it’ll stop you from getting scammed!

Want a Step-by-Step Guide to Securing Your Google Account?

In my Peace of Mind in 15: Secure Your Google Account workshop (available inside the Get Productive Pro Pack), I walk through:

  • Setting up your recovery options correctly

  • Managing legacy access for family or business continuity

  • Avoiding traps like this phishing example

And because scams are evolving every day, I also included a quick “scam spotting” segment to help sharpen your filter for what’s legit and what’s not.
